1. What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website. It allows the site to remember information about your visit (preferences, session identifiers, etc.) to facilitate future navigation.
Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when the browser is closed) or "persistent" cookies (retained for a defined period).
2. Cookies Used by CactusPop
CactusPop takes a minimalist approach to cookies. Here is a detailed breakdown of the cookies and storage mechanisms used:
| Type | Description | Duration | Legal Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Maintains the connection to the service during browsing | Session (deleted when browser is closed) | Strictly necessary |
| Game preferences | Stores game settings (volume, display) | Persistent (until manually deleted) | Strictly necessary |
| Player identifiers | Stores the player's username and tag in localStorage | Persistent (until manually deleted) | Strictly necessary |
| Local high score | Saves the best score on the device | Persistent (until manually deleted) | Strictly necessary |
CactusPop uses no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies, no analytics cookies (Google Analytics, etc.) and no third-party cookies (social networks, etc.).
3. Strictly Necessary Cookies
All cookies used by CactusPop are classified as "strictly necessary" for the service to function. In accordance with applicable data protection regulations, these cookies are exempt from prior consent requirements as they are essential for the service to operate.
Without these cookies, the service could not function properly (loss of username, preferences, etc.).
4. Local Storage (localStorage)
In addition to cookies, CactusPop uses your browser's local storage (localStorage) mechanism to save:
- Username and tag: your player identifiers so you don't have to re-enter them
- Game preferences: sound volume, display settings
- Local high score: your personal record stored on your device
- Multiplayer session data: temporary information for games in progress
This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers, except for the username and tag when submitting scores.
5. Managing Cookies
You can configure your browser to accept or reject cookies. Here are the instructions for the main browsers:
Google Chrome
Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data. You can block third-party cookies or all cookies.
Mozilla Firefox
Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data. Select the desired protection level (standard, strict, or custom).
Apple Safari
Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data. You can block all cookies or only third-party cookies.
Microsoft Edge
Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies. Configure the desired behavior.
Warning: Disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent CactusPop from functioning properly (loss of preferences, need to re-enter username on each visit, etc.).
6. Clearing Local Storage
To delete CactusPop local storage data:
- Open your browser's developer tools (press F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I)
- Go to the "Application" tab (Chrome/Edge) or "Storage" tab (Firefox)
- In the sidebar, select "Local Storage"
- Find the entries associated with the CactusPop domain and delete them
You can also use the "Clear browsing data" feature in your browser (Ctrl+Shift+Delete) by checking "Cookies and site data" and "Cached web content."
